My favorite sustainable baby boy clothes this Fall

My obsession with baby clothes began long before Hudson made his grand entrance into the world. When I was pregnant, one of my favorite activities was to find a baby boutique (in whatever city we were exploring that day) & pick out a soft, sweet outfit that I could imagine our baby boy wearing one day. Now that he’s here, we have even more fun exploring all of the local children’s shops together.

Hudson is officially a toddler these days (*not crying), so we’ve moved on from cozy footie pajamas into cutie mini outfits for our little man. Something about seeing those yummy, chunky thighs peek out from his lounge shorts & roll-filled arms hiding underneath his tiny tees melts my heart into a puddle. There is nothing more fun than dressing a toddler!

As I continued to learn more about toxins early in my motherhood journey, I turned my focus towards the things that surround our baby boy every second of the day: his clothing! I quickly learned that natural, sustainable clothes (free of the toxic chemicals found in synthetic fabrics) are the best & healthiest choice.

Whenever possible, I shop organic because even conventional cotton is treated with herbicides, pesticides, and other potentially harmful substances. Thankfully it’s not difficult to find natural baby clothes, and most brands (even affordable ones) have their own organic lines. I can’t wait to share some of my favorites from this Fall season!

Little Planet by Carter’s

You might have seen me mention Little Planet before, I’m a huge fan! Carter’s has always offered plenty of natural baby clothes, but they recently launched an exclusively organic line that I can’t stop telling everyone I know about. It’s affordable, GOTS certified, & the styles are so cute! Although I’m only sharing boy clothes on this post, their baby girl clothes are just as adorable. Linking a few of my favorites below!

Gap Organics Shop

Although Gap may be categorized as a fast fashion retailer, according to CEO Sonia, they “know there is more work to do, and (they) are committed to growing (the) business in a way that protects the planet and supports healthy communities for generations to come.” Gap has announced several sustainability goals such as a plan to source 100% of their cotton from sustainable crops by 2025.

I appreciate their organics baby shop that features items made with 100% organically grown cotton (free of harmful synthetic pesticides and fertilizers). They have tons of basics to choose from at very affordable prices. Below are a few of my faves!

Nordstrom

Oh Nordstrom, you never let us down. Nordstrom carries a wide variety of organic baby clothes from well known brands such as Oliver & Rain, Petit Lem, and Miles the Label. They also have their own Nordstrom line, that carries several cute natural (and organic) options.

While I believe organic clothes are the best choice for baby, I also think that natural, 100% cotton pieces are a good step in the right direction - especially for those who are newer in their nontoxic journey and are trying to rid their closets of synthetic fabrics. Below are a few of my favorite (nonorganic) cotton baby clothes from Nordstrom!

*Note the ribbed set is 95% cotton, 5% spandex!

Pact

I discovered Pact when I was looking to treat myself to some new loungewear, and it turns out they have lots of cute, organic basics for babies and toddlers too! I love that Pact partners with fair trade factories to ensure safe labor conditions for employees, do their part to protect the environment, & uplift communities by building sustainable livelihoods.

All of the items I’m listing below are produced in a fair trade factory in India & are made from GOTS certified organic cotton. Not to mention, they’re timeless basics that won’t go out of style in a year, so they can be shared & loved again in the future.

Burt’s Bees

What’s not to love about Burt’s Bees? They launched their organic cotton clothing line back in 2012 with a dream to make organic, quality baby clothes available to all at affordable prices. Today, their GOTS certified clothing can be found at most big retail stores: Target, Nordstrom, Buybuybaby, & more! I’d say they more than accomplished their goal.

Burt’s Bees seeks out sustainable factories that help reduce their environmental footprint by doing things like planting trees, recycling water, and generating energy via solar panels and wind turbines. They’re also passionate about partnering with communities and supporting where they can through volunteer work, donations, and disaster relief initiatives. Way to go BB’s!

Colored Organics

Colored Organics is one of my favorite baby brands! They offer a wonderful selection of neutral, earth toned baby & toddler clothes that are (yep, you guessed it) organic! The company is committed to ethical production of their goods & sustainable sourcing of their products.

Mama of two & owner Amanda Barthelemy started CO because she wanted to make a difference in the clothing industry. By embracing ethical fashion, her goal is to do good not only in consumers’ homes, but all along the path of production & beyond. Below are some of my favorites!

There are so many great, sustainable baby clothes out there! If you’re serious about building a more natural, healthier closet for baby, then I would encourage you to dive in and research all of the options for yourself. I’m so thankful for the knowledge I’ve picked up along the way and shop with much more confidence now. A few helpful questions that I ask myself before buying baby clothes are:

What material is the product made of?

Is the product GOTS certified?

Where is the product manufactured?

Is the product manufactured in a fair trade factory?

Most importantly, I pray daily that God will grant me wisdom when it comes to these every day decisions and that He will help me to be the best mom & wife I can be to my family. I encourage you to walk closely with the Lord each day, listen to your convictions, and experience His peace as He guides and protects you and your family in love.

til next time,

Becks
