The sustainable clothing brand I live in (no, really)

You know when you feel like a clothing brand just gets you? You own multiple pieces (that you wear over & over) and are subscribed to the email newsletter to ensure you have first access to their next launch. That’s how I feel about my new favorite brand, Mate the Label. I can honestly say I’ve never been this excited about clothes before.

When I started to make the switch to a more natural, sustainable lifestyle my view of clothes and the fashion industry changed dramatically. I used to be heavily influenced by all the latest styles I saw Bachelor nation wearing & would buy new clothes only to be over them after a single wear. These days, I’m investing in fewer, quality basics that I can wear time and time again.

Yes, fashion can still be fun when you’re making the switch to a more sustainable closet! I’m grateful to see so many companies (even some of the larger corporations) shifting towards greener clothing production. This means there are tons of trendy, good for us (& good for the planet) options out there, so we don’t have to say goodbye to feeling cute just because we’re shopping clean.

But there are some companies who go above & beyond when it comes to sustainable clothing production. They prioritize the wellness of their customers by creating nontoxic, organic clothes & fight for the wellness of the planet by leading the clean fashion movement - all the while producing clothes you actually want to wear.

Cue, Mate the Label. I could build my entire wardrobe from Mate’s selection of brunch-worthy jumpsuits, earth-toned athleisure wear, & so soft pajamas. In fact, I have been! They recently launched an organic sweater collection, and I might need to order two… or three. Truly - all I need is Mate, my favorite jeans, and my Birkenstock’s. Closet. Complete. I can’t wait to share a few of my favorite styles below!

Brunch basics

Mate has several casual dresses, jumpsuits & matching sets that are perfect for a day out running errands in the city or brunch with the girls! Their tencel rib collection is one of my absolute faves - the pieces are so versatile & feel like butter on. I also love that they’re machine washable (& dry-able!). Another thing Mate does really well is sustainable linen. I’m planning to stock up when the warmer months come back around. Linking a few of these styles below!

Athleisure (aka my daily uniform)

Natural, athletic clothing may sound like somewhat of a contradiction. Most companies default to 100% synthetic materials such as nylon and elastane when creating workout clothes for their “sweat-wicking” properties. When I started digging into my closet, I quickly realized that my daily uniform of athleisure wear consisted of mostly un-natural fabrics (yikes!).

That’s when I discovered that Mate has a line of organic, made in LA activewear that rival the flattering styles from Lulu & Alo. That’s right, I said it! I’ve worn my sets out running errands and running on my incline treadmill and they were super comfy, breathable, & made me feel amazing. The athletic line is arguably my favorite discovery from Mate. Below are a few of the items I own and love.

Jammies & intimates

The pajamas. Let me start by saying I am very picky when it comes to pajamas. This girl takes her sleep very seriously. But truly, Mate’s pajamas are so silky smooth, flattering (you could easily wear them out of the house with an oversized cardigan), & hold up well after many rounds in the wash. I couldn’t ask for more!

There are plenty of gorgeous earth-toned sets to choose from, and they recently launched a limited time collab with Parachute. I don’t know if it’s just me, but my Mate x Parachute pajamas seem to be extra buttery-soft. I also love their intimates line - the organic cotton crop tank is the perfect top for lounging. Linking some of my favorites below.

As I continue to transition to a more natural, sustainable closet, I’m inspired by clean, go-getter brands like Mate the Label who are passionate about creating nontoxic clothes & cultivating a healthier planet. I’m also learning that less is more when it comes to my wardrobe & starting to invest in fewer, versatile pieces that I can wear for years to come.

If you’re in the process of transitioning to a cleaner closet like me, I hope you’ll give yourself grace & be kind to yourself as you continue to build a healthier home for you and your family. I’d love to hear if you’ve tried Mate for yourself (or know of any other sustainable clothing brands that you’d like to share) in the comments below. Happy shopping, friends!

til next time,

Becks
